The time to apply for the Spring 2010 Classes in Cosmetology has been extended thru 11/13!

Cosmetology is the professional care of hair, skin, and nails. The cosmetology curriculum consists of a minimum of, but not limited to1600 hours of instruction and requires a 2.0 average or higher in each of the 5 sequential courses to earn 42 units of college credit and a Certificate of Completion in Cosmetology. It prepares the student to qualify for the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology examination and the workforce. Upon passing the state examination, the student will be issued a cosmetologist license by the California State Board.  More Details

Esthetician is the professional career in skin care and make-up.  The curriculum consists of a minimum of 600 hours and requires a 2.0 average or higher to earn 17 units of college credits and a Certificate of Completion in Esthetician.  It prepares the student to qualify for the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology examination and the workforce. Upon passing the state examination, the student will be issued an esthetician license by the California State Board.  More Details

Instructor Training (COS 61 A & B) is offered for the experienced cosmetologist to become a qualified cosmetology instructor. Training consists of theory and principles of effective teaching methods including: lesson planning, oral presentations, methods of evaluation, test construction, audio visual equipment operation. Emphasis is placed on preparation for job placement in a California Community College Cosmetology Program.  More Details


How to Apply

The application for acceptance to the Cosmetology Program is a 2 STEP PROCESS.

Follow these steps for Cosmetology and Esthetic courses;

STEP 1

If you have never applied to RCC, fill out an online application during one of the following weeks:

1st  Week in June     -  Course beginning in Fall Semester
1st  Week in October -  Course beginning in Spring Semester
1st  Week in March    -  Course beginning in Summer Semester

This will create a student ID number for you, which you must have to complete the next step.

You MUST select Cosmetology as your Intended Major.

Once you have filled out the application, there are two ways to get your student ID number:

  1. A welcome letter will be mailed to you within one week of applying. This will include your WebAdvisor username, which are the initials of your first and last name along with your student ID number.

  2. Go to the WebAdvisor homepage and click on “Learn your WebAdvisor username and password”. (Please allow 48 hours for your RCC application to be processed before attempting to log in)  NOTE: if you do not include your social security number on your application, you will not be able to use this feature, and will need to go to Admissions with photo ID.

If you are a current or former RCC student, update your application online at www.rcc.edu/students/apply/apply.cfm during the weeks listed above.
It is recommended that you identify Cosmetology as your Intended Major


STEP 2

Log into Web Advisor on the following days.

3rd  Monday in June     -  Course beginning in Fall Semester
3rd  Monday in October -  Course beginning in Spring Semester

3rd  Monday in March    -  Course beginning in Summer Semester

  1. Select ‘Cosmetology Supplemental Form’ from students menu. Available for one week only, 8am to 11pm. Select term in which you are applying for and click ‘OK’.

  2. You will then be directed to the “Cosmetology Application” screen. Choose one program, check box at bottom of page and submit. You will not be able to change selected program after you check this box and submit application.


>> Candidates are selected by Lottery

>>> You will receive either an Acceptance Letter or a Denial Letter
        in approximately 3 weeks.

  1. After receiving an Acceptance letter, follow instructions fully. Not following the acceptance letter instructions fully may result in you losing your place in the program.
  1. If you receive a Denial Letter, please read and reapply next application period.
